As Karirana Estates Limited (Eden Tea), we believe that caring for the environment is part of our responsibility as a company that depends on healthy soils, clean water, and stable weather. We were proud to take part in the 2025 Forest Challenge as sponsors and active participants.
The Forest Challenge is not just an outdoor event. It is a practical effort to restore and protect Kenya’s water-catchment forests, including the Aberdare and Mau landscapes. These forests are essential to the country because they:
- support rivers and water sources that feed homes, farms, and industries
- regulate climate and rainfall patterns
- hosts diverse plant and animal species that play an important role in local livelihoods
When forests are degraded, water becomes scarce, communities are affected, and agriculture suffers. For a tea-growing company like ours, this impact is direct. Healthy forests help sustain the rainfall and water supply that our tea farms depend on.
Our participation helps strengthen ongoing conservation work while creating employment opportunities for local communities who grow and supply the seedlings.
Being part of the Forest Challenge allowed our team to see first-hand why this initiative is important. Walking, climbing, and navigating the forest trails gave us a clearer picture of what we are protecting. It reminded us that the success of our tea and the well-being of our farmers is closely linked to the stability of Kenya’s natural ecosystems.
We remain committed to supporting environmental conservation. The Forest Challenge is one of the ways we continue to contribute to forest restoration and responsible land management. Healthy forests mean healthier communities, stronger farms, and a more sustainable future for everyone.
