At Karirana Estates, excellence begins at the source. Our tea-growing and processing journey is guided by decades of experience, sustainable agricultural practices, and a commitment to delivering the finest quality tea to the world.
About 25% of the green leaf supplied to our factory comes from our nucleus estate, comprising 324 hectares of mature tea. This includes a blend of old seedling teas and modern clonal varieties, creating the perfect balance for quality and sustained production. The art of growing tea at Karirana is deeply rooted in heritage and refined through years of experience. Our agronomic practices are guided by research, innovation, and good husbandry, ensuring continuous improvement in productivity and quality. Every effort, from soil care to canopy management, is geared toward producing lush, productive tea tables that are plucked year-round, providing the factory with premium raw material for world-class tea.
Our highly skilled workforce carries out the delicate art of plucking, carefully removing the two topmost leaves and a bud, where the finest concentration of flavor and aroma resides. Immediately after plucking, the leaves are swiftly transported to the factory to preserve their freshness and integrity, essential for processing into high-quality Black CTC and Orthodox teas. Beyond tea cultivation, Karirana also grows eucalyptus trees as a renewable energy source for tea curing. With over 200 hectares of eucalyptus forest, we remain committed to self-reliance in fuelwood and to promoting sustainable agricultural practices that protect both our environment and our future.
